The laser is beneficial for certain procedures to limit bleeding, improve visualization, reduce post-operative edema, and reduce discomfort related to the procedure. Soft palate resections, oral masses, and total ear canal ablations are examples where the surgeon will consider its use.

Fluoroscopy can be described as continuous radiography, allowing to manipulate a limb and see the movement of bones and joints on the screen. A fixed device is in the radiology room, and a mobile device is available in the specialized surgery rooms. Intraoperative fluoroscopy is sometimes used to verify the placement of metal implants (for example, the position of screws in the sacrum or coccyx, or the position of a rod relative to a joint), or to do studies of vascular contrast in certain cardiac procedures or in soft tissue surgery.
