The next morning, Leo woke up early, eager to find out what Santa had brought him. But when he got up, he saw Max staring at the front door, as if waiting for something. As the days went by, more and more villagers came to bring food for the animals, and the children took care of them, offering them a warm and safe place. The stray animals found a new home, and the whole village seemed immersed in the Christmas spirit of love, generosity and kindness.
Leo and Max were proud of their garden, and every time they went there, Max seemed happier than ever. The two friends often went for walks together, with Max trotting happily alongside Leo, his collar shining under the stars.
“You see, Max,” Leo said one evening as he watched the tinsel twinkle, ”this Christmas, we gave more than gifts. We gave love.”
On New Year's Eve, the whole village gathered around the campfire to celebrate the holidays and their new tradition of caring for animals. Leo, surrounded by his friends, looked at Max, who lay down beside him, and suddenly realized that this Christmas had been the most wonderful of all.
“Max,” said Leo, ”you've made this Christmas a real miracle. Thanks to you, I've learned that there's nothing more beautiful than giving love and caring for those in need."
Max wagged his tail gently, as if in reply.
